Bakone Sustainable Livelihoods Initiative is a programme designed by Bakone Development Agency and Puno Agro Foods to empower rural communities by providing sustainable solutions for food security, water access, and economic resilience. Through this initiative, we focus on equipping communities with the necessary resources, skills, and infrastructure to create long-term self-sufficiency. Our approach integrates training, mentorship, and access to markets to ensure that small-scale farmers and emerging agribusinesses can thrive in their local economies. By fostering sustainable agricultural practices and promoting responsible resource management, we help communities build resilience against economic and environmental challenges.

In partnership with the Mopani District Municipality, Bakone Sustainable Livelihoods has implemented community borehole projects across rural areas in Limpopo. These boreholes have provided reliable water sources for local farmers, enabling them to cultivate crops, sustain livestock, and establish cooperative farming ventures.

By addressing critical water shortages, the programme has facilitated food production and economic activity, improving livelihoods and fostering community-driven development. Our work continues to expand, ensuring that more rural households gain access to sustainable farming opportunities, ultimately contributing to regional economic growth and food security.
